I could not believe the debate last night. It really reminded me of the 2012 Obama/Romney debate when Romney just Gish galloped his way through the whole debate by spewing out lie after lie after lie after freaking lie.
Literally nothing that Biden said about his record last night was true. Let’s start with social security. He vehemently denied ever putting social security on the chopping block. Let’s see what your lying eyes tell you:
He kept adamantly lying about his record, even when Bernie challenged him on this. The ease and certitude with which he lied on this really reminded me of the way Trump lies, with no inner voice telling him that he’s lying. He just kept doing it with total impunity.
And then there was his claim that he’s always gotten a 100% rating from NARAL. Now at least on this, he equivocated a little when Bernie challenged him, but he still tried to claim something that simply wasn’t true.
I don’t know why Biden chooses to lie, instead of saying that he’s evolved on the issue of women’s reproductive rights, but I’m very troubled by this. Biden once said that Roe v Wade went too far, and that he didn’t think that a woman should have the sole right to say what should happen to her body. No, really. He said that.
He actually claimed that he has always supported the African American community. I’ve already told you that wasn’t true, but it’s much worse than what I listed in that post. Biden has a history of lying about his imaginary participation in the civil rights movement. A couple of weeks ago at the South Carolina debate, he told a fanciful lie about being arrested on his way to see Nelson Mandela thirty years ago. I don’t know why Biden makes up these stories and why he feels compelled to even bring up the civil rights movement at all, but he does. In reality, Biden was vehemently anti civil rights. Here is an actual quote from him in regard to bussing, “Unless we do something about this, my children are going to grow up in a jungle, the jungle being a racial jungle with tensions having built so high that it’s going to explode at some point.” Remember that quote, because the Russian bots are going to infuse all social media networks with it if he’s the nominee. We’ve got to make a move on this. No, really. That’s what he said. He liked using straight up racist language like “jungle” in those days. Not only did he not participate in fighting for civil rights, he was a foot soldier in the efforts to beat them back.
And then, Biden tried to minimize his role in passing the bankruptcy bill. This is another unbelievable, straight up lie. Again, let your own lying eyes be the judge:
Oh, and here’s Orrin Hatch thanking Biden profusely for all of his hard work on that bill. Notice Mitch McConnell’s delight? This is pretty representative of all of Biden’s bipartisan work in the senate:
And then, Biden touted his record on marriage equality. While he was voting for the Defense Of Marriage act, here’s what Bernie was saying about it:
Here’s Biden fifteen years after that:
Joe Biden was so fucking full of this with that assertion, that it made my head spin.
And then there were the Super PACs. Here are the groups supporting Bernie:
Do those look like Super PACs to you? If they do, then let’s take a look at Biden’s (from Open Secrets):
Are you kidding, Joe? Pretending like these are the same is a big, fat fucking lie.
And then there was Joe’s insistence that the bank bailouts were a great idea, when Obama himself admitted that 95% of the gains of the recovery went to the top 1%. Really Joe, you can’t come up with something that could have been done differently? Unreal.
Honestly, Biden’s performance last night left me jarred. Really jarred. He’s always played it a little fast and loose with the Truth, but last night was too Trumpian for comfort. At least Joe and I agree on something: his record sucks, and he can’t actually run on it.
But Trump can. Trump can run an effective campaign on Joe’s record.
The more Joe speaks, the less daylight I see between him and Trump.
Believe me, I haven’t even scratched the surface with Biden. I thought I had done a deep dive, but two of the things in this piece were things I did not know before this morning. This guy is a target rich environment for voter self suppression. He’s a much deeper well than Hillary ever was:
Even the New York Times, in their article about how Biden won the debate showed how bad a candidate he is. Gail Collins basically said he won because he didn’t shit the bed last night (seriously, click on that link). Michelle Goldberg pointed out that he lied while she was rating his debate performance an 8 out of 10 (seriously?). Everyone else seemed to think that his “winning” hinged on one thing: his promise to pick a woman as his VP. WOW! That’s a ringing endorsement.
I watched that debate twice to make sure I wasn’t being hyperbolic. It was even more upsetting the second time.
Joe Biden is demonstrating all of the disturbing characteristics of Donald Trump with the cognitive impairment and the pathological lying. The only reason I possibly have left to say that he’s better than Trump, is that he hasn’t been president yet. Last night seriously diminished the amount of daylight between the two.
